Project-Gatelock
The aim with this project was to come up with a new gate lock solution for preschool gates as the current solution makes it possible for kids to escape and some locks are hard to open. The requirements for the project were therefore that the lock must be safe, flexible, self-closing, easy to understand and use and possible to open with one hand.
The result became a gate with both an electric and a mechanical lock function. The electric function means that you can use a key card to activate a timed solenoid which then opens the gate for 5 seconds. The mechanical function means that you move the entire locking plate with a handle instead.

This combination makes the gate flexible as it can be opened in two ways to satisfy all generations and if you forget the key card the gate can still be opened. The solution is also easy to understand and use and the gate can be opened with one hand. The combination is also safe as only the adults have a keycard and the mechanical lock system is only placed on the outside of the gate so the children can't reach it from the inside. The spring makes the it selfclosing so the gate won't be left open.
